Oracle Database - Standard Edition - Version 11.2.0.1 to 12.1.0.1
[Release 11.2 to 12.1]

Generic UNIX

Generic Linux

Symptoms

 Oracle Database Software installation reports
error "INS-06101 IP ADRESS OF LOCALHOST COULD NOT BE DETERMINED",
The warning could be ignored to proceed with installation of DB
software alone. But same error occurs configuring listener using
NETCA / NETMGR utilities.

Cause

 OUI or network configuration tools report this
error if they could not find the set hostname ( Fully Qualified
Domain Name ) of the server and IP address associated with it.

Solution

 

 Troubleshooting Steps:

 Checking following files to determine if the
host and IP are configured appropriate on server -

?cat /etc/resolv.conf < Check whether DNS entry are set
appropriate on file >

?cat /etc/nsswitch.conf < Check hosts entry set to
appropriate >

?cat /etc/sysconfig/network < hostname should be defined
correct in the file >

 Following command should not fail -

?ping localhost

?ping `hostname -f` & ping `hostname` ( it is not single
quote in the command, it is backtick )

 If any of the files or commands listed above
has issues, correct them and retry the installation.
