CHAPTER 1 Introduce

As you might have guessed from the title ,this is a book about Zynq! That's Zynq as in the new generation of All-Programmable
System-on-Chip(SoC),not to be confused with zinc ,or Zn,the chemical element.

通过题目你可能已经猜到了,这是一本关于Zynq的书。Zynq是新一代的片上可编程系统,不要将它与化学元素中的锌所混淆。

In fact ,there is a link between the two. Rumour has it that Xinlinx gave their new device the name Zynq ,because it presents
a (processing) element that can be applied to anything.Zynq devices are intended to be flexible and form a compelling platform for wide variety of applications,just as the metal zinc can be mixed with various other metals to form alloys with differing desirable
properties.

事实上两者之间是有联系的。据传闻,Xinlinx之所以命名这个芯片为Zynq是因为它提供了一个能应用于任何应用的处理元素。Zynq 设备的(设计)目的在于它可以被灵活的应用,同时它可以为各种各样的应用(场景)构建一个引人注目的平台,就像金属锌一样,可以与其他金属混合形成各种品质令人满意的合金。

The defining feature of Zynq is that it combines a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with traditional Field Progrannable Gate
Array (FPGA) logic fabric. Although dedicated processors have been coupled withe FPGAs before,it has never been quite the same proposition .In Zynq ,the ARM Cortex A9 is an application grade processor ,capable of running full operating systems such as Linux,
while the programmable logic is based on Xinlinx 7 -series FPGA architecture.The architecture is completed by industry standard AXI interfaces,which provide high bandwidth,low latency connections between the two parts of the device.This means that the processor
and logic can each be used for what they do best ,without overhead of interfacing between two physically separate devices .Meanwhile ,benefits arising from simplifying the system to a single chip include reductions in physical size and overall cost.

Zynq的定义特征是它将一个双核ARM A9处理器和数字门电路FPGA单元结合在了一起。尽管之前也将处理器和FPGA合并在一起,但是它没有完全的结合到一起。在Zynq中,ARM A9作为一个应用级处理器,可以运行完整的操作系统,如Linux,同时基于FPGA
Xinlinx 7 又构建了可编程的逻辑架构。两部分的设备通过高带宽低延迟的AXI标准接口构建个一个完整的架构体系。这就意味着,处理器和逻辑单元能够被更好的相互使用,不会因为彼此设备分开而增加额外的接口开销。与此同时,通过合并成一个芯片所带来的好处是减少了物理尺寸和总成本的更多花销。
