How to install mysql on linux (actually redhat 5)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1、download
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/
MySQL - The MySQL database server, which manages databases and tables, controls user access, and processes SQL queries.

MySQL-client - MySQL client programs, which make it possible to connect to and interact with the server.

MySQL-devel - Libraries and header files that come in handy when compiling other programs that use MySQL.

MySQL-client-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

MySQL-devel-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

MySQL-server-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

2、uninstall

[local-host]# rpm -qa | grep -i mysql
mysql-5.0.22-2.1.0.1
mysqlclient10-3.23.58-4.RHEL4.1

[local-host]# rpm -e mysql --nodeps
warning: /etc/my.cnf saved as /etc/my.cnf.rpmsave
[local-host]# rpm -e mysqlclient10

3、install

[root@localhost download]# rpm -ivh MySQL-server-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

[root@localhost download]# rpm -ivh MySQL-client-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

1:MySQL-client ########################################### [100%]

[root@localhost download]# rpm -ivh MySQL-devel-5.6.14-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

4、configure

[root@localhost download]# service mysql start

Starting MySQL........ [ OK ]

【err-handle】：error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

[root@localhost download]# mysql -u root mysql

mysql> UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('root123') where USER='root';

mysql> flush privileges;

mysql> quit

Bye

[root@localhost download]# mysql -uroot -p

Enter password:

Your MySQL connection id is 3

Server version: 5.6.14

mysql> set password = password('root123');

5、usage

mysql> create database testdb;

mysql> show databases;
