User Guild for Initializing the Android Develop Environment with VMware player

The purpose of this document is to illustrate the steps of initializing the Android development Environment with virtual box. The document begins with some tips which are the prerequisite for setting up the Android develop environment. Two sections constitute
this guild: creating a new virtual machine in section one and installing the Android x-86 in section two.

Reminder:

To setup your programming, it is highly recommended to install the following tools: VMware player

Besides, we also need to download Android x86 ISO file

1 Create a new virtual machine

To create a new virtual machine, please perform the steps below:

1) Double-click the shortcut of VMware Player on the desktop to display the home page



2) Click “Create a New Virtual Machine” on the home page to display the wizard



3) With the entrance of the wizard, you can select the disk where you would like to install by clicking the browse button in the wizard box, or, alternatively, by the drop-down list. Thereafter, please click on the “Next” button to proceed.



4) Type in the name of your virtual machine that you prefer and browse the disc and folder where it is located, and then click “Next” button to continue the initialization.



5) Click the up-arrow and down-arrow to specify your maximum disk size. Optionally, you can type in directly. By default, it is 20.0 GB. Then select the options whether you would like to split the virtual disk or not. Finally, click the “Next” button to
proceed.



6) Click the “Finish” button to conclude the creation of virtual machine.

2 Install Android x-86

1) After you have finished the aforementioned steps, the VMware player shall display as below:



2) Please highlight the last option, which is “Installation―Install Android-x86 to hard disk” with the help of the arrows on your keyboard.



3) Please press “Enter” button on your keyboard to create disk. The screen shall display as follows:



4) Then the disk partition editor shall display as below:



5) Please highlight "New" as the following screenshot, and then press enter to continue.



6) Afterwards, please highlight "Primary".



7) Please press the “Enter” button on the keyboard to continue the installation of Android x-86. Currently, you are allowed to decide the partition size. By default, it is the full size of the VHD, as shown in the following screenshot. You can press the
“Enter” button on the keyboard if you agree with it.



8) Please highlight "Bootable" as shown in the following screenshot:



9) Press the right arrow button on the keyboard to highlight the “Write” choice as shown below:



10) Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard. Upon that you are required to type in the word "yes", which might constitute a pitfall for you to type "yes", because this tool can do some serious damage to your file system if you are installing this to a physical,
instead of virtual hard drive. But on the bright side, you are in the land of the virtue.



11) After typing "yes", you will get a display as the follow screenshot shows. Please highlight the “Quit” button to continue the process.



12) Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard, the following screen appears.



13) Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard, the screen shall display as follows. Please highlight “ext3” and “OK”, as shown below:



14) To continue the installation, please press the “Enter” button on the keyboard again. Thereafter, a confirming dialog box shall appear as shown below. Please highlight “yes” option.



15) Then the following confirming dialog box shall pop up, please highlight “yes” and press the “Enter” button on the keyboard to proceed.



16) Please give a positive answer to the pop-out question box, which means highlight “yes”.



17) After the progressing bar has reached 100%, you shall get a screen as below. Please highlightthe scond option—“Create a fake SD card” and “OK” button.



18) After pressing the “Enter” button on the keyboard, the following reminding message shall appear.
