As ROS does not support Ubuntu 13.04, I have to install 12.04 to override the latest release. While I have trouble doing it, which could be due to the old Ubuntu release does not support the new device in my new laptop.
However, there seems to be no other options. I have to make it work.
I can not get into the Install Ubuntu or Try Ubuntu page, the launching page hangs there forever. Therefore, I followed Daniel's suggestion that install 12.04 of the text-based mode. But I still did not have GRUB.
What I did was to install GRUB in Try Ubuntu in Ubuntu 13.04 installation. It worked, now I could launch both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. BUT, on both of them there is no internet connection and on Ubuntu the TERMINAL does not respond.
in text-based installation of 12.04, firmware was required so I downloaded and put it in a usb stick for the system to load while it could not be recognized and read. Then I installed 12.04 ignoring the file. When I looked into the .mod file in 12.05, the
required file was there and it was more updated than the one I downloaded.
Devices Requiring Firmware
I wanted to
check my hardware, and this is how to do that on Ubuntu. But I can neither run terminal or connect to internet. So, it won't work for me.
I tried to install fixparts files in 12.04 by software center, but it indicated that only install this file if you trust. People in the forum said this was about the source of the software, should to set "download from the internet". I did so, but the install
button was still grey. Some other people said, "The button is greyed out because a
itself, but not the other packages the program needs to work correctly. They're just referenced to in a text file inside the package."
I believe so.
When I insert the internet cable into the new laptop, then checked into Network, a message popped out "The system network services are not compatible with this version"
I checked the compatibility of the notebook and Ubuntu 12.04:
Ubuntu friendly
