Overview

SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft that simplifies database migration process from MySQL to SQL Server. SSMA automates all aspects of migration including migration assessment analysis, schema and SQL statement conversion,
data migration as well as migration testing.

SSMA for MySQL v5.2 is designed to support migration from MySQL 4.1 and higher to all editions of SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, and SQL Azure.

Requirements for the SSMA for MySQL client:

Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version.
The Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or a later version. You can obtain it from the .NET Framework Developer Center.
MySQL Connector/ODBC v5.1
Access to and sufficient permissions on the computer that hosts the target instance of SQL Server.
1 GB RAM.

Requirements for the SSMA for MySQL Extension Pack:
SQL Server 2005 or higher.
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version.
MySQL Connector/ODBC v5.1.

Instructions

After the download, you must extract the installation files before you can install SSMA for MySQL.

Installing the SSMA for MySQL

Double-click SSMA for MySQL exe.
On the 'Welcome' page, click Next.
If you do not have the prerequisites installed, a message will appear that indicates that you must first install required components. Make sure that you have installed all prerequisites, and then run the installation program again.
Read the End User License Agreement. If you agree to the terms, select
"I accept the agreement"
option and click Next.
Read the 'Usage Report Settings' page, select or clear the feature reporting box, and then click
Next.
On the 'Choose Setup Type' page, click Typical.
Click Install.

In addition to the SSMA program files, you must also install the SSMA for MySQL Extension Pack on the SQL Server machine.

Installing the SSMA for MySQL Extension Pack

Note: SSMA for MySQL Extension Pack is not supported on Windows XP.
Double-click SSMA for MySQL Extension Pack.exe file.
On the 'Welcome' page, click Next.
Read the End User License Agreement. If you agree to the terms, select
"I accept the agreement"
option and click Next.
On the 'Choose Setup Type' page, click Typical.
On the 'Ready to Install' page, click Install.
On the 'Completed the First Step of Installation' page, click Next. A new dialog box will appear, in which you select the instance of SQL Server for the extension pack installation.
Select the instance of SQL Server where you will be migrating MySQL schemas, and then click
Next. The default instance has the same name as the computer. Named instances will be followed by a backslash and the instance name.
On the connection page, select the authentication method and then click
Next
.Windows Authentication will use your Windows credentials to try to log on to the instance of SQL Server. If you select SQL Server Authentication, you must enter a SQL Server login name and password.
On the next page, select Install Utilities Database n, where n is the version number, and then click
Next.The sysdb database is created and the user-defined functions and stored procedures are created in that database. If Install Tester Database option is checked the tester ssmatesterdb database will be created.
To install the utilities to another instance of SQL Server, select Yes, and then click
Next. Or, to exit the wizard, click No.

SSMA is a FREE download, and is available for use by any customer or partner with no charge or any obligations. However, the product requires a license key for activation. The key can be obtained after quick and simple registration. Microsoft reserves the right
to use an e-mail address or phone number provided during registration in order to contact a customer regarding his/her SSMA experience. To help you with the registration process, a License Key Required dialog box opens the first time that you start the SSMA
program.
