Should students bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study, as this statement suggests? In response to this issue, we need to analyze the proposition comprehensively and systematically. In a sense, I agree insofar as students should question what they taught instead of accepting it passively. However, I hold the view that the students should have the skepticism which is based on certain knowledge. A good learner should bring a certain skepticism to some knowledge they learn while he should accept some thoughts. Therefore, my contention toward this opinion is that it is necessary to question what they are taught for certain area and certain people, while , it is danger for some people to reject accepting some concepts that are commonly recognized by all people.
First and foremost, there is no denying the fact that the skepticism is very necessary for some high level learners who have the basic judgments because skepticism can help promote the comprehension of certain questions. The skepticism origin from the deepen thinking of the question, which can push the learning process even the skepticism is wrong at last. What’s more, certain skepticism is necessary for critical thinking creativity of the students, which is the resource of innovative ability. Darwin, who built the theory of evolution of creatures, originated the idea from the suspicion of the prevailing view of catastrophist theory at that time. Without the skepticism of Albert Einstein to the limitation of Newton’s three laws of motion, it is entirely possible that our understanding of the cosmos is still limited in the three dimensional spaces.
Despite the merits of the speaker’s claim, however, I disagree with the statement that students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they study. Firstly, lower grade students do not have to have a skepticism to whatever they learn because their rudimentary knowledge is not enough for them to make the right judgment. What is more important for them is to learn and accumulate knowledge and ask their teacher a lot of question, not challenging the long established principles taught by their teachers. The most important thing that our education gives to students is not skepticism and criticism without thinking, but to teach them develop the unique judgment about different questions. All good students should learn to decide to support or reject an opinion or come up with their own opinions after investigation and thinking carefully.
From the analysis made above, I commit to the optimal approach that we need to seek a balance and take an all-sided consideration. In my opinion it is necessary to question what they are taught for certain area and certain people, while, it is danger for some students to reject accepting some concepts that are commonly recognized by all people. For different kinds of students, they should have different choices. Although skepticism is the recourse of innovation, it does not mean we should bring doubt on whatever we study.
