Since I participated the Drizzle project through Google Soc, I am curious that how this project come? Who are the guys keep contributing Drizzle? And what kind of person my mentor, Jay Pipes, is?
OK, after the period of geting know with Drizzle. Let me announce the answer:
1. The history of Drizzle
Here Brian announced Drizzle is the headwaters where Drizzle idea created as far as I know. So it has started almost a year: )
Drizzle is a community-driven project based on the popular MySQL DBMS that is focused on MySQL's original goals of ease-of-use, reliability and performance.
Drizzle Features:
Based on MySQL 6.0 source tree
No shipped libraries
POSIX compliance
Micro kernel design
Pluggable Architecture for views, stored procedures, UDFs, storage engines ...
Sharding across multiple nodes
Intelligent proxy
Multi CPU/Multi Core
Optimized field types
Efficient memory use
No internal ACL, use LDAP/PAM
No database data formatting
Cleaned up make system
InnoDB default storage engine
Windows compatibility removed
Localized commandline tools and user notifications
2. The famliy of Drizzle
Up to now, there more than three hundred members join this project. See how charming Drizzle is!!
And from Jay's blog, I knew there are some of the main contributors:
They keep codeing and designing with great enthusiasm.
3. About my mentor: Jay
As I know Jay has been as a staff engineer on the Drizzle project in the Sun CTO organization since October 2. 2008 (So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish)
Most I learn from Drizzle is from his blog (a really long blog), also from his blog, I knew he is not only a tough guy in IT. He can build house himself, he combined high performance Mysql with kong-fu as "Join-fu: The Art of SQL" -- what a creative idea is: )
So, I am thankful that I can work with a guy who is full of passion to his life, his work.
