IBM AFP 字体简介（二）

Core Interchange fonts是按语言来打包的。以下的语言包括Core Interchange fonts：
- Latin1
- Latin235
- Latin4
- Cyrillic Greek
- Arabic
- Hebrew
- Symbols
- Thai (added in AFP Font Collection V2.1)
- Lao (added in AFP Font Collection V2.1)

----Core Interchange fonts支持以下的语言：
- Latin1 (ISO 8859-1): Danish, Dutch, English, Faeroese, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic, Irish,Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish

- Latin2 (ISO 8859-2): Albanian, Czech, English, German, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian,Serbocroatian, Slovak, and Slovenian。

- Latin3 (ISO 8859-3): Afrikaans, Catalan, Dutch, English, Esperanto, French, German,Italian, Maltese, Spanish, and Turkish。

- Latin4 (ISO 8859-4): Danish, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greenlandic, Lappish, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Norwegian。

- Latin/Cyrillic (ISO 8859-5): Bulgarian,
Byelorussian, English, Macedonian, Russian, Serbocroatian,and Ukranian。
- Latin/Arabic (ISO 8859-6): Latin and Arabic scripts。
- Latin/Greek (ISO 8859-7): Latin and Greek scripts。
- Latin/Hebrew (ISO 8859-8): Latin and Hebrew scripts

Additional Uniformly-Spaced Fonts
----为了补充 Core Interchange fonts，一组等间距字体(Uniformly-Spaced Font)被加入到 AFP 字体软件 IBM AFP FONT COLLECTION。没有准确的名字来命名这些字体， 但它们包含了大部分的兼容字体和几乎所有的内置字符集（4028 除外）。具体内容如下：

- Boldface Latin1 (roman bold; Latin1 language complement)
- Courier APL2 (roman medium and roman bold; APL2 language complement)
- Gothic Katakana (Katakana language complement)
- Gothic Text Latin1 (roman medium; Latin1 language complement)
- Letter Gothic Latin1 (roman medium and roman bold; Latin1 language complement)

- OCR-A and OCR-B (Optical Character Recognition (OCR) language complement)

- Prestige Latin1 (roman medium, italic medium, and roman bold; Latin1 language complement)

BookMaster Fonts
----BookMaster Fonts 是最后被加入到 Core Interchange fonts 中的。它与上面提到的两部分有些不同，主要表现在以下几方面：

- BookMaster Font 没有打印机内置字符集
- BookMaster Font 没有自己的代码页（code page）
- BookMaster Font 没有 coded font，原因是BookMaster Font 不用 coded font

----BookMaster Font 提供以下字体：
- BookMaster Latin1 (roman medium, italic medium,roman bold, italic bold; BookMaster language complement)

- BookMaster Latin1 Reverse (roman medium; BookMaster language complement)
- BookMaster Specials (roman medium, italic medium, roman bold, italic bold; BookMaster language complement)

- BookMaster Specials Reverse (roman medium; BookMaster language complement)

- IBM Logo (roman medium; BookMaster language complement)

IBM Expanded Core Fonts 的格式（Data Format）
----IBM Expanded Core Fonts 支持以下字体：
- 240-pel raster (bounded-box only)
- 300-pel raster
- AFP outline
- Type1 outline

IBM Expanded Core Fonts 发展趋势
----每一次语言文字方面的增强，都会使 Expanded Core Fonts 随之扩展, 新的字体可能被加载。这些字体都将成为今后 AFP FONT 单字节字体和双字节字体的核心。Expanded Core Fonts 和DBCS Core Fonts 构成了未来AFP Font 的基本组成部分。

DBCS Core Fonts
----第一代 AFP 双字节字体是由 IBM Yamato Lab 开发的。这些字体包括日文、韩文、简体中文和繁体中文，并且只有240 DPI。
----到了1998年，AFP 字体软件 FONT COLLECTION 发行了新的版本V2.1，为用户提供了更多的选择。而不需要 Type Transformer 来转换。

----现在，大部分IBM AFP 打印机或者包含完整的双字节AFP字体或者支持购买相应的软件来安装。双字节AFP内置字体是 CID-keyed Outline Font(轮廓字体)。支持更高的分辨率。

DBCS Core Fonts 的发展趋势
----IBM 会继续增强 DBCS Core Fonts 的功能，主要在扩展字符集组成方面。Expanded Core Fonts 和 DBCS Core Fonts 构成了未来AFP Font的基本组成部分。

打印机内置字体（Printer resident font）
----有些打印机有内置字体，存储形式包括硬盘、ROM、字库卡、磁盘或是一种组合的方式。在支持Outline font 的AFCCU 打印机之前，在 IPDS 环境中使用打印机内置字体都会有局限：打印机要支持4028这种形式。

----目前情况有了很大改进，AFP 打印机支持 IPDS Outline Font，并且会包含 Expanded Core Font。只需要很少的Outline Font，就可以打印大量文字而无需从系统下载。AFP FONT COLLECTION 更提供主机系统版的内置字体，文件可以被格式化和打印到任何一台支持 IPDS Outline font的打印机上，不需要考虑打印机的分辨率。。

打印机内置字体的发展趋势
----Outline Font 的技术将会在Unicode中继续得到支持。
