vm网络连接错误信息:failed to connect virtual device ethernet

可以试着重新装一次vm,估计重新装过后还是这样(。。)

那你照下边说的做。

去下载个vm的安装程序,比如:VMware-workstation-5.5.2-29772.exe

然后把他放到c盘根目录

运行cmd

cd /

到c盘根目录

执行命令:

VMware-workstation-5.5.2-29772.exe /c

Updated VM to 5.5 lost network

I have been using VM Workstation for years. I just upgraded my version from 4 to 5.5.2. All of my sessions came across.

My host machine has network connection. But my VM sessions do not. My individual session show "Local area connection network cable unplugged".

Now, I had problems upgrading my VM. It would not allow me to upgrade or uninstall my old version. So I went into the registry and helped. Then I could install. But I am sure my "help" caused the network connection between my VM and workstation to not become re-created.

So, any suggestions other than rebuild my machine and then re-install VM?

Thanks
Carl

What type of network connection do the VMs have (bridged, NAT, Host Only or custom)? What type of network connection does the host have?

I have tried them all.

The sessions from the old VM version was bridged and they worked up until I upgraded VM.

Please remember, I am pretty sure that when I had to go into the registry to be able to un-install the old version of VM, that I messed something up. So that when I did install VM 5.5.2, it did not install the network portion.

By the way. There was not any VMWARE left in the registry before I began the VMWare workstation install.

Any idea? I am still trying to figure out how to set up my netowrk connection inside the VM session.

In the VM Settings of the VM Guest, is the ethernet Device status Connected (ticked) and Connect at power on (ticked) ?

I have had the same problem when VM guests in a Team were on a host only LAN segment but had no VM Ware network setting ticked.

Hope that helps

It is when it is not in session (powered on). But during initial power up, it gives me this error message {The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running.... Failed to connect to virtual device Ethernet0} and unchecks that box. When I check that box, it gives me that message again.

I think the error is that when the VM workstation 5.5 was installed, it did not create the bridged network pieces on my host workstation.

Sorry to be a nuisance when you say "All of my sessions came across" does that mean that you upgraded the Virtual machine for each guest ?

Having read your response to another posting I think the way that uninstalled VM Ware explains the problem you are experiencing.

no way are you a nuisance, I just want to understand how to fix where I am at. I also feel that when I did the registry hack, I caused this problem. I made this hole and now I am trying to figure out how to get out of it.

I had about twenty different VMware sessions created in VM 4. (9x, NT4, 2K, XP, Linux SLED9 and SLED10 and NW6.5). Many of those had different combinations of applications and drivers. All of those came across with the upgrade. I see each of them as old VM versions. When I choose one of the sessions, I am asked if I want to upgrade it to the current version of VM or leave it. I have both upgraded the session and left it at the current version but each have not been able to connect to the network through the host machine.

My host machine is XP. I have been using it for about a year with VM 4. I create application objects with it. Or at least I created application objects until I did the upgrade that is.

I have not experienced any other problems with this machine. Everything else functions normal (as far as I can tell). Even VMware 5.5 installed normally after that. I even built a new session (virtual machine) and it has the same problem.

Carl, Is this the same problem as you are discussing in another thread where I've been anwering? If so, let's end the discusion there and continue it here.

Post the .vmx file

Do you see the VMware Bridge protocol on the physical adapter properties?

What type of virtual networking are you currently trying to use in the virtual machine?

My *.vmx file is listed below.

I do not have VMware bridge protocol on my host machine physical adapter properties. When I installed 5.5, they were not created. I assumed that this is my problem. But I do not know how to create them.

I ONLY have the option of Bridged (that does not work) and Custom. NAT and Host-only are grayed out.

Please remember that I did remove everything I could find in the registry that was listed as VMware. Then I installed VM 5.5 workstation. I did this after my first attempt to install VM 5.5 ended in a abnormal end (BSD) and my machine auto rebooted. When my machine was back up, I could not install or un-install VM 5.5. So I went into the registry.

Thanks for your help.

I was able to work out a combination to get my VM machines (sessions) to see the host network.

1- I went into the global Edit - virtual network - Host Virtual Adapters and added my VMNet0 interface. Then went to Edit - virtual network - DHCP and added VMNet0. Then I had to shut down VMware. Bring it back up and I had this in the summery.

2- I went into the VM session and changed the settings - ethernet - to custom, VMNet0 (NAT)

3- then started the session and it connected.

I have to assume that something is still broken with my VM. Though I have a work around, I can't live with it. I will probably end up rebuilding this machine and re-installing all of my software including VM.

Next time I will think twice before I try and force a program to un-install by cleaning the registry. Next time when a program does not un-install, I will not upgrade until I have time to rebuild if I need to.

Hi Carl,

The install of VMware workstation failed to install any of the network components. You really need to try a reinstall of the product

I will uninstall with the /c option. Then re-install. I would rather have it work than have to rebuild my entire machine.

YEAH !!!

There is life !!!

I put the file VMware-workstation-5.5.2-29772.exe on the root of my c: drive. I then opened a dos shell with CMD. I ran VMware-workstation-5.5.2-29772.exe /c. This asked me a number of questions that i accepted all the defaults.

Then, while still on the root of c:, I ran VMware-workstation-5.5.2-29772.exe. This went through the install once more. But this time I have the option to NAT my ethernet connection. I selected the option then I started the session (virtual machine) and it connected to my network.

Happy day, happy day, I am pleased to be happy today.

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

I am glad the uninstall worked for you.

It was the best solution since you had too many network components that did not get installed.
