　　南京皇城是朱元璋兴建的,皇城内多为政府机构和皇家御园。洪武二年(公元1369年),设立亲军都尉府,统领中、左、右、前、后五卫,专事对皇城的保卫。洪武六年(公元1373年)造守卫金牌,或镀金铜牌,牌上有篆文"守卫"、"随驾"字样,存尚宝司,军士值班领取佩带,下值时交回。洪武十五年(公元1382年),建锦衣卫,设南北镇抚十四司,其编制将军、力士、校尉,专门为皇帝护驾,并有巡查缉捕任务,是御林军。校尉是御林军的低级军官,负责皇城安全,检验出入皇城人员的证件,若有失查,从重治罪。此铜牌为值夜班的军士佩带。
